Once upon a time, the inhabitants learned tanning deer skin from native Americans were high quality deer leather was produced. Many leather craftsman gathered in this area in search of high quality deer leather in the 1800’s. This area was named Gloversville and the technology of British Glove company “Dents” was brought to this area. From this era, Gloversville and Johnstown, the neighbouring town, were bases of the US glove manufacturing industry with more than 200 manufacturers. In 1893, glove craftsman Elmer Little emigrated to Gloversville to establish his own company “Elmer Little & Sons”. Elmer little & Sons became one of the most successful glove companies in the United States. His spirit of craftsman is succeeded to ELMER BY SWANY.
